Ajnala block in Amritsar district, Punjab, is a geographically sensitive region due to its proximity to the International Border and the Ravi River, making it vulnerable to recurrent flooding and infrastructural stress. During August–September 2025, severe flooding affected the block. Over 40 villages were inundated following breaches in the Dhussi Bandh (embankment) and the overflowing Ravi River, resulting in displacement and damage to homes, agricultural land, roads and civic amenities. Access to essential services, including healthcare, was significantly disrupted.
As a result, Civil Hospital Ajnala, the primary public healthcare facility in the block, experienced a sharp increase in inpatient admissions from flood-affected and economically vulnerable populations.
In post-disaster situations, availability of clean and adequate bedding is a basic yet critical healthcare requirement for patient comfort, hygiene, infection control, and dignified care—especially for women, children, the elderly, and other vulnerable groups. Strengthening such essential hospital infrastructure is vital for sustaining healthcare delivery during emergency response and recovery.
To provide essential bedding support to flood-affected patients, ensure comfort and dignity during hospitalisation, and support public healthcare response in a flood-impacted, high-priority block through a focused, outcome-oriented intervention aligned with Aspirational District principles.
Procurement and donation of 100 blankets and 400 single bed sheets, followed by formal handover to Civil Hospital Ajnala for immediate utilisation across inpatient wards catering to flood-affected patients.
Flood-affected patients and displaced families, economically weaker sections, migrant populations, women, children, elderly patients, and the general inpatient population at Civil Hospital Ajnala.
Procurement as per hospital specifications, formal handover with acknowledgment, and basic photographic/utilisation documentation in coordination with hospital authorities to ensure transparency and effective deployment.
Improved patient comfort and hygiene, reduced strain on hospital resources during flood recovery, enhanced recovery environment for vulnerable patients, and strengthened trust in public healthcare systems in a border and flood-prone area.
This need-based intervention addresses an immediate humanitarian gap arising from flood conditions in Ajnala. Through collaboration between Civil Hospital Ajnala, OT Transformative Foundation and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, Amritsar Branch, the initiative reinforces compassionate healthcare delivery, disaster resilience and inclusive development, demonstrating the impact of focused, grassroots action in a high-priority, Aspirational District–aligned context.
